“To err is human, to forgive is divine.”  Ah, the wise words of Alexander Pope.  Do you have any unresolved issues hanging over you?  A misunderstanding with a family member, or an argument with a co-worker?  We all have at one time or another.  To really free ouselves of this pain, anger, guilt, or confusion that we are holding onto, we need to make amends by trying to clear things up.  This is so important for our mental, emotional and physical well being.  It will be like a load of bricks being removed from your shoulders.  You will feel yourself become lighter and you will  wonder why you didn’t try to make amends earlier.  You know what else?  It will more than likely deepen the bond that existed between yourself and the person that the misunderstanding took place with as well.  Or at the very least you can agree to disagree and move on and start feeling like yourself and being productive again.  When dealing with others we must remember that there are many different paths of learning and that we all see things from different angles and perspectives.

I realize that there are all kinds of problems and misunderstandings.  Some problems are much bigger than others.  And some misunderstandings will not be as easily rectified as others.  Some require outside help such as a trusted friend or therapist.  However, each situation resolved, no matter how small, is one more step towards freedom.  Give it a try!  Free yourself.  It doesn’t matter who or what started the misunderstanding.  What does matter is how it is affecting your life and your ability to live it.  And if you really think about it…making amends or forgiving someone isn’t as much for them as it is for you.  It doesn’t condone what they may have done to you, but it does allow you to move on.  Try to patch things up.  You will live a healthier life!
