Every morning when I drive my car to the gym, although my destination is to the left, I have to actually turn right first because traffic is so busy on that road it’s virtually impossible to cross the lanes to get into the proper direction that I want to head. So, I turn right and about 500 yards later when traffic gets lighter, I turn left into a side street and then head back in the proper direction to get to my destination at the gym.
Why am I telling you about my morning commute to the gym? I kind of feel that life can be like this as well. Sometimes we have to take side steps and even head in the wrong direction temporarily before we can get our bearings and head in the direction that we want to go.
The side road could come in the form of an extra job to pay the bills or some pro bono work that we do to get noticed. Or it could even be leaving a secure job that was holding you back for some reason. It could have been a negative work environment or you realized that you weren’t growing there anymore and needed a new challenge.
The point I’m trying to make is it’s OK to be a little unconventional and go one step back while taking two steps forward. Don’t be afraid. As long as you are holding onto your intention of where you ultimately want to be and taking the proper steps of continually moving to get there. You are going to be alright. Even if it is a baby step or a temporary step backward; that’s ok. The key is to not allow yourself to get stagnant. We are energy and meant to be in motion. And motion is going to get you eventually where you want to be. So the next time you find yourself needing to go right even though you want to go left, take heart, you are going to be just fine!
