“Only as high as I reach can I grow,
only as far as I seek can I go,
only as deep as I look can I see,
only as much as I dream can I be. “
– Karen Rayn
I want you to close your eyes for a few seconds…..As you slowly open them, imagine yourself coming out of a foggy stupor …. at first not knowing where you were or how you got there. And then imagine….. realizing you are laying down on a cot covered in a blanket with an I.V. in your arm, and that you feel absolutely dead tired. And finally imagine a huge teeth-glaring smile come across your face, and a wave of relief combined with satisfaction as soon as you realize you know exactly where you are and wouldn’t trade it for the world!
This is the feeling I had a few years back after finishing my 4th Ironman triathlon. And no they didn’t all end that way! I think the 97 degree heat combined with my being somewhat under trained were the reasons I ended up in the medical tent that day. But the funny thing is (some people might call me crazy), I would do it again in a heartbeat. You know why? Because it was a dream of mine.
What is a dream and why do we have them?
According to Webster’s dictionary a dream is a condition or achievement that is longed for, an aspiration.
I agree with this definition, but I also think it is much more than that. I feel a dream is our higher self (or true self) reaching out to our conscious mind, trying to link up and connect us to our true path or destiny. A dream in turn is a manifestation of our true nature, something that links our conscious mind to our true self or soul. That is why we need dreams. When we are accomplishing our goals and living our dreams we are being our true soulful selves. We are honoring who we are. We feel balanced, blissful and connected with the Universe. When we are living our dreams, we are at peace and have peace of mind. When we are living our dreams we have no fears, no worries, and no regrets. We are fulfilled.
As we head off into the new year with excitement, hope and resolutions in hand, I want each and every one of you to be fulfilled. I want you to look inside and honor your true self. I want you to honor what you are being guided to do and I want you to honor who you are being guided to be. When we are being true to ourselves and when we are being truthful with ourselves, LIFE explodes in joy, wonderment and true fulfillment. I honor each and everyone of you and wish you an amazing 2010! Cheers! Brian
